Buchinger Therapeutic Fasting

Almost 90 Years Of Therapeutic Fasting Tradition

Dr. Otto Buchinger I.

Dr. Otto Buchinger I, who in July 1920 founded the clinic at Witzenhausen, knew from his own experience that many, especially chronic illnesses could be cured or at least alleviated by fasting. He called fasting in a positive ambiance and under experienced medical supervision and care the "Gold Standard of the art of healing".

Buchinger Therapeutic Fasting today is a tailor-made low-calorie "fluid diet" where the body is supplied with approximately 250 kcal daily in the form of juices and vegetable broths. Since vitamins, trace elements and minerals essential for the function of the metabolism are sufficiently taken in during daily life and with a balanced diet, they will only be supplemented if necessary during Therapeutic Fasting, for example by dairy products. The always holistic Therapeutic Fasting cleanses the organism so to speak and regenerates it, and activates the self-healing forces. It is combined with a change of the patient’s lifestyle to a healthy one (life dietetics) and taking greater responsibility for one’s own health.

Medical care around the clock, diagnostics of the internal medicine, an extensive portfolio of complementary therapies and a well thought-out exercise and wellness programme account for the long-term success of the Buchinger method.

The usual course of Therapeutic Fasting runs for 2-4 weeks. If you are pressed for time, we can offer you the Buchinger Vital Fasting, a programme that will give you physical regeneration and revival in only 11 days! People just wanting to get a taste of the method might be interested in the six-day Buchinger Intensive programme.

This classic healing method can combat the roots of many chronic and acute illnesses and almost always alleviate or even cure them, e.g.:

  • Type 2 diabetes
  • Metabolic syndrome
  • Lipometabolic disorders
  • High blood pressure (hypertension)
  • Joint and soft tissue rheumatism
  • Overweight / Obesity (adipositas)
  • Skin diseases
  • Migraine
  • Gout (Hyperuricemia) etc.

Purpose of Fasting:

  • Therapy for the successful treatment of many illnesses
  • Physical cleansing and regeneration
  • Realisation and self-discovery -> "awareness"

Of course, nobody is forced to fast – our fresh-produce "Vollkost" (wholemeal) cuisine is very popular with our guests!

In order to determine whether the "remedial fasting" is the treatment promising to be successful for the respective patient, each stay at the clinic begins with a thorough initial examination and anamnesis (examination/diagnostics, laboratory, ECG, sonography etc.). Depending on the findings, the physician can then prescribe an individual diet or Vollkost. Additional treatment preferentially takes the form of herbal or homoeopathic medicines. Integral – non-negotiable – part of the programme is physical activity (exercise & sport).
