In the course of technological progress modern human beings have increasingly become removed from nature. In addition to the blessings of civilisation, this progress also entailed changed living conditions and frequently promoted unhealthy patterns of behaviour - e.g. widely spread lack of exercise and a partially harmful modern diet. From a biological point of view, Homo Sapiens has not changed significantly since the Stone Age – but their living environment has changed decisively within a few decades. Many so-called "diseases of civilisation" arise unquestionably from conditions that no longer correspond to our original environment and the resulting weakening of our organism’s self-healing and self-regulating forces. The basic approach of classic naturopathic treatments therefore is to restore the original balance – the homoeostasis –, to normalise the functioning of the "matrix" and not to treat individual symptoms only. Naturopathic treatments use active factors originating from nature: warmth, cold, light, air, medicinal plants, diet, exercise/physical activities, rest and positive spiritual impulses. The selective application and dosage of these factors stimulate and strengthen the self-healing forces innate to the organism, such as the immune system. This way the body can better resist illnesses, and existing illnesses can be alleviated or even cured. At the same time Therapeutic Fasting is a preventative/prophylactic measure. All naturopathic treatments have in common that they contribute to the strengthening of the whole organism by means of regulation, stimulation and rest and that the patient is re-introduced to healthy living conditions and environmental conditions that are as close to nature as possible.
